According to Vietnamese media, the current wholesale price of 034 avocado in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam is only VND0.8-15,000/kg ($2.3-4.3/kg) and the retail price is VND25,000-40,000/kg ($7.2-11.5/kg), down by nearly half compared to the same period last year, reaching the lowest price in history.


The 034 avocado is a native variety originating from the central highlands of Vietnam, with slender strip-shaped fruits, about 20-27 cm in length and weighing 300-800 g. The skin of the fruit is smooth and hard, and it is easy to preserve after harvesting. The kernel is small and the flesh is yellow and fiberless with a percentage of 85%.

 
034 avocado used to be very popular in Vietnam, and the price was once as high as VND200,000/kg ($57.5/kg) at the beginning of the production season. In the last two years, however, the price of 034 avocado has plummeted.

Previously grown only in Lam Dong province, 034 avocado has now spread to most provinces in Vietnam's central highlands, covering tens of thousands of hectares. This year, due to abundant supply, export difficulties, and weak domestic purchasing power in Vietnam, the price has fallen to the lowest level in history.
