From SeafoodMedia on May 20, Vietnamese catfish exports to Canada totaled $17.2 million as of mid-April 2022, up 69.4 percent year-on-year, and the export trend of growth in the first half of this year is expected to continue.

 
Canada is the second largest export market for Vietnamese catfish in the CPTPP, and Vietnamese catfish has superior prices and stable supply in this North American market. Traditionally, Canada has had close trade relations with the U.S. and China, and also produces and exports its own seafood.
 
In the last three years, Canada has begun to actively seek and promote trade in seafood imports, including catfish and tilapia.
 
To date, Canada has been a regular export market for more than 30 catfish companies in Vietnam, with the three major exporters to Canada in the first quarter of this year being Vinh Hoan, NTSF Seafoods and TG Fishery.
 
The average export price of Vietnamese frozen catfish in the first quarter of this year was between $3.15 and $3.35 per kilogram.
 
The main competitive products of Vietnamese catfish in the Canadian market include real cod, haddock and tilapia, while in recent years Vietnamese catfish has gradually occupied the market share of Canadian white fish products.
