According to data from Ecuador’s National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA), Ecuador’s shrimp exports totaled 840,000 tons in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 24%; the export value is US $5.078 billion, a year-on-year increase of 41%. Industry insiders in Ecuador attribute the sharp increase in white shrimp exports to the recovery in demand from the global hotel and catering industry. China is still the largest export destination for Ecuador’s shrimp, with exports to China accounting for 46% of its total exports. In 2021, China imported about 390,000 tons of Ecuador’s shrimp, a year-on-year increase of 9%.
