Chilean seafood exports to Russia shrink sharply, salmon sales down 80%! For more information on export to China, please call SINOLOBEN, service Email: sinoloben@sloben.coms
Exports in April fell 87% year-on-year to 810 tons and 82% year-on-year to $4.9 million. In March, Chile exported 1,645 tons of seafood to Russia, worth $9.6 million.
Historically, Chilean salmon has accounted for half of the Russian import market, with annual sales of more than 50,000 tons. This April, salmon sales fell sharply to 722 tons from 8,773 tons in the same month last year, with sales dropping to $4.8 million from $57.8 million.
Daniel Montoya, sales director of Chilean producer Blumar, told UCN: "Russia was an important market for Chile, but I don't think it will be in the future, at least not in the same volumes as in previous years. Most shipping companies have stopped serving Russia and there is too much uncertainty about logistics."
In addition, the Chilean industry is more concerned about the issue of rising fuel costs due to the Russian-Ukrainian war, as well as logistics costs.
In addition, Chilean mussel exports to Russia are shrinking significantly, with the industry expecting a 15-20% reduction in production this year. in 2021, Russia and Ukraine account for about 20% of Chilean mussel exports, so in the short term, market demand from other countries can still be met.
