Brazilian media reports, according to data from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), from Jan. to Nov. 2021, Brazil’s pork exports reached 1.05 million tons, setting a new annual record, an increase of 11.3% year-on-year and an increase of 2.2% compared to the total exports of last year. The export value increased by 17.8%, reaching US $2.45 billion.

However, based on the single-month data in November, Brazilian pork exports last month totaled 79,300 tons, with an export value of US$170.6 million. Compared with the same period in 2020, sales fell by 9.4% and exports fell by 15.9%.

The main destination of Brazilian pork sales is still China. From Jan. to Nov. 2021, it exported 503,800 tons of pork to China, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%. Brazilian pork data dropped sharply in November, which is related to the saturation of China's domestic pork supply market and the low price.

It is reported that Brazilian food processor BRF SA plans to start producing meat in China as part of an aggressive growth plan that could more than double annual net sales by 2030.

BRF mainly serves the Chinese market via exports. But as China rebuilds its pork herd and the pandemic has rattled global logistics, a local presence, as BRF has had for years in the Middle East, will be paramount.
