At present, China has given permission to import Vietnamese passion fruit and the negotiation process for exporting durian to China is in the final stage. In the US market, the negotiation process for sales to the US is also at the final stage. This is a positive signal and a good export opportunity for Vietnamese fruits.

 
At the forum titled "Measures to strengthen sustainable development and marketing of key fruit production in the South", Le Thanh Son, Deputy Director of the Plantation Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, revealed that China has granted permission to import Vietnamese passion fruit to Guangdong Province on a pilot basis through the ports of Lang Son and Quang Ninh provinces, and the two sides are entering the final round of negotiations on the export of durian. The two sides are refining export control protocols on planting areas, distributor numbers and pest management.
 
Vietnam exports six fruits to the US market, including dragon fruit, mango, lychee, longan, rambutan and star apple. Currently, the two sides are negotiating the final step to open the export gate of pomelo.
 
In addition, Vietnamese dragon fruit, mango and lychee have been exported to Japan and negotiations are underway with the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on the cold chain preservation of longan to lay the foundation for other fruits to be exported to Japan.
 
To usher in export opportunities, some localities have made preparations for planting areas and sources of raw materials. Tuan Ngoc Yau, deputy director of Gia Lai's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the province has just added passion fruit to its list of four main fruits, with a planting area of 4,000 hectares, topping the national list. By 2025, Gia Lai province aims to increase passion fruit plantation to 20,000 hectares and become the country's home of passion fruit.
 
According to Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first five months of this year, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports amounted to about $1.47 billion, down 13.6 percent year-on-year. In May 2022 alone, the foreign exchange generated $300 million, down 11 percent year-on-year.
